Specialty Lab Testing & Procedures
Neuroveda Health offers specialty diagnostic testing that goes well beyond what most Seattle-area providers have available. If you're managing a complex, chronic, or hard-to-diagnose condition - or if you've been researching a specific test and can't find anyone nearby who orders it - you may have found what you've been looking for.
JUMP TO TESTS FOR:
These tests and procedures represent some of our specialty testing options, although we use many others for specific needs.

Each section includes in-office procedures performed at our Seattle clinic as well as specialty lab tests available by home kit or blood draw.

Nervous System & Neurological Testing
Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) Testing
We are one of only three locations in Washington State offering a complete, in-office autonomic nervous system evaluation. For patients with POTS, dysautonomia, long COVID, hypermobility disorders (including Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome), or unexplained symptoms involving dizziness, heart rate, blood pressure, or fatigue after position changes - this testing provides answers that most clinics simply cannot offer.
The evaluation consists of four gold-standard tests performed over approximately two hours:

-
Tilt Table Test - Measures heart rate and blood pressure response when the body moves from lying to upright. The primary diagnostic test for POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) and hyperadrenergic dysautonomia.
-
Heart Rate Deep Breathing - Evaluates the autonomic nervous system's control of heart rate during controlled breathing cycles. Reflects cardiovagal function and autonomic balance.
-
Valsalva Maneuver - Tests how the cardiovascular system responds to increased intrathoracic pressure. Reveals the integrity of sympathetic and parasympathetic reflexes.
-
QSART (Quantitative Sudomotor Axonal Reflex Test) - Evaluates small-fiber nerve function through sweat gland response. Can detect small fiber neuropathy and early or subtle nerve damage not visible on standard nerve conduction studies.

A confirmed dysautonomia diagnosis opens the door to targeted treatment - and for many patients, ends years of being dismissed or misdiagnosed. POTS frequently co-occurs with mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, and post-viral conditions including long COVID. Payment is due at time of testing; we provide a Superbill for insurance reimbursement.
Skin Biopsy for Testing Small Fiber Neuropathy, Amyloid, and Alpha-Synuclein Deposition
This 30-minute in-office procedure tests for small fiber neuropathy (SFN) by taking small punch biopsies from three sites on the leg - above the knee, below the knee, and at the foot. The areas are covered with band-aids and are not large enough to require stitches or special treatment.
Small fiber neuropathy affects a different class of nerve fiber than standard nerve conduction studies evaluate - which is why SFN is so frequently missed. Small fibers communicate with the skin, internal organs, and the gut; damage can manifest almost anywhere in the body. Symptoms may include:

-
Numbness, tingling, burning, or "wrong" sensations (parasthesias) anywhere in the body
-
Gut motility disruption or enzyme secretion issues related to nervous system involvement
-
Autonomic symptoms alongside peripheral pain or sensory changes
-
Pain and fatigue patterns consistent with fibromyalgia, POTS, or connective tissue disorders

The biopsy also tests for deposition of alpha-synuclein and amyloid - misfolded proteins that can reflect elevated total stress burden and are associated with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease respectively. Finding deposition in the legs is not diagnostic of these diseases, nor does it indicate they will develop - but it provides clinically meaningful information about systemic physiologic stress.

Cost is $300 for the in-office procedure and processing. Pathology lab testing is often covered by insurance; we provide billing codes and a Superbill for reimbursement.
NeuroCognitive Testing (CNS Vital Signs)
CNS Vital Signs is a validated, computerized neuropsychological assessment covering a range of mental processes from simple motor performance through attention, memory, and executive functions. It is part of Dale Bredesen's "Cognoscopy" protocol for evaluating brain and cognitive health, validated for ages 8-89 with a 4th grade reading competency. Tests are available in 60 languages (reports in English).
Its greatest value is in longitudinal tracking - repeated assessments over time create a measurable cognitive baseline, making it possible to objectively monitor whether function is improving, declining, or stable. Particularly valuable for patients managing:

-
Post-COVID neurological symptoms
-
Mold illness or biotoxin exposure
-
Chronic Lyme or tick-borne disease
-
Neurodegenerative risk factors

This approximately 45-minute test can be completed from the quiet comfort of your own home or at our office. Cost is $300 and includes a 30-minute review with one of our clinicians. You do not need to be an established patient to order this testing - send an inquiry and we can call you for a quick screening.
FRAT Testing - Folate Receptor Antibody Test
Tests for antibodies that block or bind the folate receptor, preventing the brain from absorbing folate even when blood folate levels appear normal. Associated with inflammatory autism presentations and PANS/PANDAS.

Who it's for: Children or adults with treatment-resistant neurological symptoms, sudden behavioral changes, or unexplained cognitive symptoms - especially when standard labs are unrevealing.

Cunningham Panel
Specialty antibody testing for PANS and PANDAS - immune-mediated neurological conditions characterized by abrupt symptom onset. Evaluates autoantibodies that can trigger sudden-onset neurological or behavioral symptoms.

Who it's for: Children and adolescents (and some adults) with sudden-onset behavioral, psychiatric, or neurological changes - particularly when standard workup is unrevealing.

Neural Zoomer
Evaluates 48 neurologically associated antibodies using specialized chip technology to detect immune-mediated conditions including autoimmune encephalitis, gluten-related neurological syndromes, and neuroinflammation.

Who it's for: Patients with unexplained neurological symptoms, or suspected autoimmune nervous system involvement that standard panels haven't captured.
Mitochondrial Health Testing
MeScreen
A newer test evaluating mitochondrial efficiency, glycolysis, and reactive oxygen species from a finger-prick blood spot. Unlike conventional markers, MeScreen captures mitochondrial function over months rather than a single moment. You will be hearing much more about this test in the coming years.

Who it's for: Patients with unexplained fatigue, post-viral or post-illness decline, long COVID, or CRPS - particularly when the body seems stuck mid-recovery.

MitoSwab
Evaluates electron transport chain complex activity - the core machinery of mitochondrial energy production - through a simple cheek swab. Approximately 85% as accurate as a muscle biopsy without the invasive procedure.

Who it's for: Patients investigating mitochondrial dysfunction as a driver of chronic illness, fatigue, or treatment resistance.

Infectious Disease & Environmental Exposure Testing
Specialty Lyme & Tick-Borne Disease Testing
Expanded panels through specialty labs that identify a broader range of Borrelia species, strains, and co-infections - including Bartonella, Babesia, and Ehrlichia - that standard ELISA and Western blot miss.

Who it's for: Patients whose standard Lyme testing has been negative or equivocal despite a clinical picture consistent with tick-borne illness, or those who haven't been tested for co-infections.

MARCONS & Nasal Microbiome
A specialty nasal swab evaluating for MARCONS (multiply antibiotic-resistant coagulase-negative staphylococci), fungal organisms, and biofilm-forming bacteria in the nasal passages.

Who it's for: Patients with chronic sinusitis, biotoxin illness, or mold-related immune dysregulation that hasn't resolved with standard treatment.

Mycotoxin & Mold Testing
Urine mycotoxin testing that evaluates toxic mold exposure and total body burden - identifying which mycotoxins are present and at what levels.

Who it's for: Patients with chronic fatigue, cognitive symptoms, respiratory issues, chemical sensitivity, or conditions that worsened after time in a water-damaged building.

Hormones & Metabolic Testing
DUTCH Test (Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones)
Evaluates hormone levels and how they are metabolized - far more depth than standard blood panels. Includes sex hormones, adrenal cortisol rhythm patterns, and organic acid markers. Available in multiple versions depending on your clinical picture and life stage.

Who it's for: Patients with hormone-related symptoms, adrenal concerns, cycle irregularities, perimenopause or andropause, or those currently on hormone therapies.

Continuous Glucose Monitoring
We frequently incorporate CGMs to understand real-time blood sugar in the context of daily life - capturing post-meal spikes, reactive hypoglycemia, and stress-related fluctuations that a fasting glucose or HbA1c can't reveal.

Who it's for: Patients investigating reactive hypoglycemia, blood sugar dysregulation, or anyone where energy, mood, weight, or inflammation may be tied to glucose patterns.

Gut & Microbiome Testing
Comprehensive Microbiome Panels
Goes beyond standard stool culture to evaluate the full microbiome ecosystem - digestive function markers, inflammatory signaling, immune response, and the broader microbial community including commensal organisms, pathogens, and pathobionts.

Who it's for: Patients with persistent digestive symptoms, IBS patterns, immune dysfunction, or systemic conditions that may have a gut component.

SIBO Testing
Breath testing for small intestinal bacterial overgrowth - evaluating methane, hydrogen, and hydrogen sulfide to identify the type of SIBO present.

Who it's for: Patients with chronic bloating, IBS-pattern symptoms, or digestive issues that haven't resolved with standard approaches.

Genomics Testing
Invitae - Hereditary & Connective Tissue Conditions
Targeted genetic sequencing for hereditary connective tissue disorders (including Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome), autoinflammatory syndromes, and related hereditary conditions.

Who it's for: Patients with hypermobility, unexplained joint or tissue fragility, POTS, MCAS, or a family history suggesting a connective tissue or autoinflammatory condition.

IntellxxDNA - Functional SNP Analysis
Evaluates clinically actionable single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in inflammation, detoxification, methylation, cognitive function, and neuroimmune health. Pairs well with neurological and mitochondrial workups.

Who it's for: Patients wanting to understand genetic contributors to chronic illness, inflammation, methylation, detoxification capacity, or treatment response.

Toxicity & Environmental Burden Testing
Toxin Zoomer
Comprehensive testing for heavy metals, mycotoxins, and persistent environmental chemicals from a single blood draw. Evaluates total toxic burden and provides a foundation for targeted detoxification support.

Who it's for: Patients with suspected heavy metal, mycotoxin, or persistent chemical exposure - or complex chronic conditions where total toxic burden may be a contributing factor.

Oxidative Stress Markers
Markers including glutathione, lipid peroxides, and 8-OHdG (a DNA oxidative damage marker) provide a window into cellular damage from toxic exposure or chronic inflammation - available through both conventional and specialty lab channels.

Who it's for: Patients with toxic exposure, chronic inflammation, or conditions where cellular damage may be contributing.

How Testing Works

Most specialty tests ship directly to you as a home collection kit - including all materials, instructions, and a return envelope. Self-collection options include saliva, cheek swabs, stool, and finger-prick blood spot. Results typically return in 2-5 weeks.

For tests requiring a blood draw: many LabCorp and Quest locations will accept outside kits; mobile phlebotomy is available throughout Western Washington via ElitePhlebotomy.com (greater Portland and Seattle) and GetLabs.com (greater Seattle).

Note: Some specialty kits have restrictions in New York State.

Frequently Asked Questions
I've been told my labs are normal. Why would specialty testing show anything different?

Standard labs are designed to find what conventional medicine is trained to look for. Specialty testing evaluates functional markers, mitochondrial health, autonomic function, environmental exposures, microbiome ecology, and systems that routine panels simply don't assess. Many patients with significant specialty findings have years of normal conventional labs.

I'm searching for a specific test. Can you order it?
